Asha was a bright, 10-year-old girl living in a small village in rural India. Her family was struggling to make ends meet; her father worked as a laborer, and her mother did small chores to earn a little extra money. They could barely afford the basics, let alone think about Asha’s education.
Every day, Asha watched other children go to school with their backpacks and uniforms. She dreamed of joining them, of learning to read and write, and of someday becoming a teacher. But her family couldn’t afford the school fees or the necessary supplies. She spent her days helping her mother around the house and taking care of her younger siblings.
